Master Class in Conducting with Matthias Pintscher, Concluding Concert

Hector Berlioz (1803-1869) Symphonie fantastique, Op. 14

He is the ideal person to lead Lucerne’s Master Class in Conducting, for Matthias Pintscher understands music from both sides, as composer and performer. Pintscher, who has been music director of the Ensemble intercontemporain since 2013, will conduct the LUCERNE FESTIVAL ACADEMY four times this summer, along with his contributions as a teacher. He will spend almost a week discussing performance practice and issues of interpretation with young conductors. And he has chosen three works for the program to test all of this: along with a fine feeling for timbre, they demand formal control and a sense of musical dramaturgy. Which is why the master class supplements rehearsals by the LUCERNE FESTIVAL ACADEMY Orchestra with detailed theory lessons in which the participants can deepen their understanding of the scores.
